When

April 5th 12:00-4:00 CST on Zoom

Speakers and Topics:

  • Daniel Singley, PhD, Center for Men's Excellence: Implications of modern fatherhood for policy and practice
    • This presentation will present research findings, clinical interventions, and suggestions for policy and advocacy related to paternal perinatal mental health. As the meaning and expectation of contemporary fathers continue to evolve, training and research in psychology on fatherhood has not kept pace with this evolved role in which fathers are generally expected to be much more involved than previous generations of fathers. Key topics include an updated take on the "essential father hypothesis," a values clarification exercise for the transition to parenting, a review of strength-based approaches to fatherhood, and advocacy initiatives aimed at better supporting and involving early fatherhood.
  • Saed Hill, PhD, Expansive Masculinities Consulting: Men and boys' engagement in AI relationships
    • This presentation will explore early research, journalism, and case studies examining the state of healthy masculinity in the age of Artificial Intelligence and the rapid challenges this technology presents in engaging men and boys today. This interactive session will introduce the concept of AI-Manipulated Masculinity (AIMM), highlighting disturbing marketing trends targeting male audiences, including AI Girlfriends, Undressing Apps, AI Pimping, Virtual Influencers, and Sexualized AI Therapists. This presentation will detail actionable strategies to navigate this evolving landscape and adapt to these emerging challenges with clarity and confidence.
  • Zachary Gerdes, PhD, Author of Man Kind: LIFT Bro: Theory to practice in the Psychology of Men with the LIFT Model
    • The LIFT model of masculinities (Gerdes, 2022) was developed to make outreach and clinical work with men more accessible and effective. This presentation outlines the model and will further address strategies for incorporating cultural factors into work with men including how to improve personalizing interventions, reducing stigma, and dispelling defensiveness towards mental health and health-promoting behaviors.
